Thanks for the input everybody. I noticed this morning that the knock was not present at cold start but was there after it warmed up. @smt 59 it is a 4WD. What would be a reasonable price to have the work done by a private mechanic? I do not have the resources to take care of this one on my own.

Never really figured out what was causing this whining noise from the rear while on the accelerator, but swapping non-locking rear end with a G60 was my fix. No while while on the gas and a much nicer when pulling the boat out of the water this winter! Marking this solved... too bad the engine...
