Starter Motor 5.3, is failure electrical or mechanical

I think you guys answered my question about removal and replacement. The wife's starter sounds like the solenoid is not functioning smoothly - kind of like you are indicating........it's sounding like it will be time for replacement really soon.

OK Boys - one of the thermostat bolts decided to loosen up and got a trickle going. According to the Haynes manual torque is 132 in lbs (or 11 ft lbs). Can someone please verify this torque is correct? Also this time around there will be loctite. On the other question that I had - when changing...

2004 V8 TB EXT Coolant Leak

Hey guys - got home from being out of town and was told the TB decided to empty out alot of coolant in the driveway. Radiator was down over 1/2 gal, overflow reservoir is empty. Topped off the radiator with 1/2 gal water then some antifreeze and then saw pretty good dripping from bottom of water...

Time for a new CAT - any recommendations?

Here's the scoop from today with a bit of background first. Last yr had codes loaded in and saw a cat code so took it in. The exhaust shop checked it all out and said that there was several codes including o2 code indicating a misfire, a cat code and an o2 sensor fail code. So they recommeded...

Time for a new CAT - any recommendations?

After delaying the inevitible it is time to have the left side CAT replaced. Have had a code here for the driver side CAT for some time (probably due to a missfire on one cylinder which has since been taken care of with new plugs and O2 sensor) and wonder if there are any specific universal...

    2004 5.3L TB Starter?

Thanks alot - it is as we figured - take a whole bunch of stuff off (including and aftermarket oil pan brush guard) and then have to wedge it through the tranny cooler lines. What a PIA!! This will be a weekender. The weird thing is the starter has not been to a non start yet, just doing weird...

    2004 5.3L TB Starter?

ANYBODY?? We made an effort last night to see what it takes and it appears there are several supports and a cross member that need to come off to access the tiny starter. Has anybody been there done that that can report on what it takes? Thanks in advance.................Jim

    2004 5.3L TB Starter?

Well as we have worked our way into warmer weather my engagement issue has all but completely cleared up. Seems that the solenoid is working much more effectively with warmer temps. At this time I'm doing the wait and see aproach. I typically start it about 4 times a day or so, so I can monitor...

2000 K3500 pickup old style body tailgate question

Hey guys - on my 2000 K3500 tailgate (it has the older 90s body style), the pivot points on the tailgate are corroded bad, and I was wondering if on the tailgate if they can be replaced? I know on the side rails that they bolt on, but on the gate I see 1 bolt and do not know if they are welded...

miles per gallon with the v8

Mine is a 2004 non DOD, and I'm in the 14-15 range mostly city - short enough trips (2 miles or less) where it does not heat up real well either. Highway is around 18. Better than my 2000 K3500 7.4L / 454 which gets 10 on a good day and 8 fully loaded with campertopper and 20 ft boat. I think...

    2004 5.3L TB Starter?

Seems like my starter's solinoid is starting to get weak. On occasion it doesn't engage well resulting in gear grinding. Isn't to the point where it wont start - yet. Seen before someone mention that the starters on these are buried and tough to get at. Anybody have any info they would like to...

    Brakes lock up in snow

My big trucks brakes are slammers once they get wet and sit. They will give you a chiropractic adjustment they slam so hard and skid. Worked the same way regardless of having ABS or no ABS. Reason I say this is my ABS was acting real goofy and activating when on dry pavement as I was slowing...

    Squishy break pedal feel?

On my 2000 K3500 pickup when my brakes get wet they are EXTREMELY TOUCHY and basically will lock up unless you have some momentum. When I bought this truck used with 20k miles it was happening. Dealer said just a side effect of having big brakes. Our old 97 blazer had somewhat similar issues but...

    Wheel hub assembly failure?

I specifically ordered Timken through Autozone a few months ago and had them do a price match from a Amazon listing. They will match the online price that includes shipping. Just present a printout of the online price. Not a problem on the part from them - not sure why someone would get...
