2006 Envoy Denali - Couple Issues

First, thanks for the great site. This place has afforded me the opportunity to save a bunch of money by repairing things on my own. Laid-off and it is hugely appreciated.

5.3 V8 - Monsoon Rains this afternoon here in MA....Not sure if it matters?
Went out after it let up and any time I tried to start it, I just got a loud click.
Climbed under and rapped starter, nothing. Played around with shifter to try and rule out NSS....

After about 20-25 attempts, started right up.

Still starting...

My guess would be ignition switch or starter (from what I've read) but I'm hoping the more educated people here have seen this problem and are like...oh yeah thats common, replace _____.

Also getting a bunch of water on passenger floor...I am assuming its not related and that is the sunroof drains because it is not the ac drain, I pulled it and its clean. I've opened the sunroof and can't seem to locate them?

How old is the battery? Get it tested. If it checks out, check that the alternator is charging it properly and that it's putting out around 14V while running. Try swapping the starter relay with another of the same type.

Was the loud click more like a clunk? It could be the starter dying.

Also check your battery connections. If you were hearing the starter click then I would have to think your ignition switch and relay are working normally.

Passenger floor water. In engine bay on passenger side firewall there is an L shaped rubber drain. Mine was clogged and I unclogged it using a long zip tie. The rubber will pull off to make it easier to insert the zip tie. That's why mine was wet on passenger floor.

I guess you skipped a line or two but he said he already checked that (the ac drain)

hey fellow masshole how are ya,on the water issue remove wiper arms and remove plastic cowl covers most likely leaves and pine needles built up in there.on the starter check and clean battery connections and connections at the starter I own the same truck as you,had same issue and as of now with mine has been batt connections that were dirty slightly loose had same issue on my 02 silverado with the 5.3 cleaned and tightened been good so far

Weird, hasn't done it since. Battery and alternator are good? I ordered another relay for the heck of it..
Man do I hope it's not the starter...looks like a beast to replace.

The starter on the 5.3L is well buried. Someone on here did post a writeup on how to do it, if you do a search you can find it.

Yup it was the starter. Died yesterday morning completely.
MAJOR PITA to get at. Would have been a whole lot easier with a lift.
Removing the cross member was necessary for sure.
At least my worries of no start are over.

Now I gotta take care of:

Water issue passgenger floor - NOT A/C Drain..Im wondering if it's the windshield?

A hum/noise in the speakers
And an A/C leak that looks like it's coming from condenser. Figure I gotta do condenser and dryer?

I got a great deal on the truck and anticipated fixing some stuff.

Shouldn't be any noise unless the exhaust system is shot or has been altered. I eliminated my AFM with a plug-in unit from Range...Mike

I disabled my DoD by unplugging the vacuum sensor on the brake booster. You'll get a CEL on but you'll know what it's for. That's until I can get a tune to disable it permanently.

Water on floor could be sunroof drain hose. Check that it's not plugged. One in each front corner of the sunroof catch basin. Water should drain out the hoses in the front door jambs.

To really confirm that the condenser is leaking, check with a UV light or a leak detector (available at Harbor Freight). The receiver/dryer should be changed at the same time.
