Aftermarket or OEM Catalytic Converter

Hi y'all,

I am about to replace my stock catalytic converter. A shop mechanic told me to be careful about aftermarket CAT's because the Trailblazer's are "Tricky", and he had to replace a buddy's aftermarket cat that the truck didn't like.

Does anyone have any advice? Or better yet, a catalytic converter part name and part # that I should buy?

I have a Magnaflow direct fit cat on mine. No issue, aside from the fact that I bought the one for the EXT on accident and had to shorten the pipe before the muffler lol.

I installed an aftermarket unknown name CAT, no problem here.

I think maybe the mechanic was thinking of the O2 sensors on these. They like delco sensors. Cat itself shouldn't physically matter a bit.

Or he's out to sell you more expensive cat, or one he can mark up more as being OEM.

Yeah O2 sensors are more picky, although I was lucky and had no problem with the Bosch that I had in my truck for a while. Couldn't get it out of the manifold in one piece when I had the manifold replaced though so now it has a Denso (which is who makes the AC Delco for these trucks).

Thanks y'all so damn much. That is what I thought! It didn't make sense to me that the truck would be picky about CAT itself unless it was too small, too large, or just crappy junk from the getgo.

He was probably out for $$$. Fortunately, I was just there to get a quote on suspension work.
