finally took the task of changing my defrost and my mode actuator on my 2002 trailblazer ext lt. great follow up on the site. remove bottom panels/covers, removed air plastic tubing and voila...both actuators sitting there. defrost was super easy, in and out. mode, not so much. i used a tool at the shop that pulled evenly, however the plastic shaft that the actuator fits into broke off. the actuator fell out with the shaft still attached to it and we had to put a screw driver in the hole and tap it out. what now? i have no idea what to do or how to fix it. any help please!

From the picture it appears to be a hollow plastic shaft, if so what about the option of a wooded dowel that would fit inside the shaft and epoxy it in then epoxy broken end back on to the dowel. Just a thought.:undecided:

Did your new actuator not come with the white gear installed on it already? Mine did, all I had to do was take the old mode actuator out and put the new one in...

wait, its a gear that comes with it? um, i have a 2002...which is different then all other models i think. im thinking of jb weld to get the part back on but theres a million different jb welds and i do0nt know which one to buy.

Yup, I believe 02 is different, I spoke too soon the other evening.

For JB Weld, get one that says it's good for plastics and you should be good to go.

now, should i get J-B WeldOriginal Cold Weld Formula Steel Reinforced Epoxy or PlasticWeldPlastic Repair Epoxy Putty???

The KwikWeld Quick Setting Steel Reinforced Epoxy is probably what I'd go with, looks like it's got the strongest tensile strength out of all the stuff you listed for plastic. I tend to go overkill when I get stuff like this just because I don't want to be in there re-gluing it if it breaks because I used epoxy that wasn't strong enough.

so i unscrewed one screw (5.5) from the cover where the mode actuator goes for the 2002 and am JB WELDING-IT to get it back in and put back into the mode actuator. here is the pic. pardon my contraption to make it stick. its the only thing in the shop that i cuold find.
