I'm torn on what I should replace here. My fan has a horrible wobble in it. I took off the belt and spun the fan and you can see the wobble I also shook the water pump and got minimal movement. I replaced the water pump two years ago and I'm suspicious of the bearing going bad in that again and causing the problem. I'm getting that horrible "jet" sound from the front of the engine. Any kind of help would be extremely grateful.

The jet sound is the fan clutch. I would do both with as cheap as the water pump is and you will be right there with the clutch replacement anyway.

Wobble is from in the clutch. Fan should be fine

The wobble could wear out your water pump. I put my bad clutch off and my cheapo water pump, replaced 18months ago, went out too. Almost got stranded.. Was it related?
I don't know, but I would replace that clutch asap.

FWIW my alternator also went out same night as waterpump. Hard not to think that this was all somehow related.

Thanks for your help guys. I stopped by the local mechanics shop and had him peek under the hood, his diagnosis is a bad pump and good fan clutch. I already have the fan clutch but have to get the pump and I'm torn between turning the clutch or just going all out and doing both. I could use the 200 bucks elsewhere.

It's a little surprising that the mechanic is reaching the opposite diagnosis. If the pulley doesn't have much play with the belt off as your original post stated then why is he suspecting a bad pump? It should be fairly straightforward to grab the fan and see where the relative motion is originating...

With the fan doing the jet engine sound, bad pump or not, it's locked solid. The wobble is probably from the water pump.

^^ +1 ^^
I don't remember anyone getting the after burner noise from a bad water pump.

:iagree: My wobble was from the pump. No mistaking the locked up fan clutch roar. Very convenient and a good preventative measure to do both. Bad fan clutch will reduce mpgs too.

A bad water pump and a roaring fan could be because you're overheating... in my case, my pump crapped out, then fan began to roar....pulledoverandgottowed :D
