high mileage/full synthetic

Really anything that meets or exceeds the engines specs.

I run Amsoil OE for almost the duration of the oil life monitor. After doing a rather unscientific test of changing my generator's oil in cold weather and the original conventional oil draining begrudgingly due to the cold and the Amsoil small engine synthetic oil just pouring freely, I was convinced of synthetic's low temperature performance. Get that oil flowing as quickly as possible. As I understand it the reason GM switched to Mobil 1 synthetic is that they seized several Corvette V8's during a cold snap at one of their plants. All had the same failure, oil did not reach a front bearing in time on first start.

I'm at 193k and have been using synthetic (Mobil 1) since I got it at 112k. Not sure what is in it before I got it.

I would put a good quality full synthetic at the proper weight.

I put the cheapest they had at the local Wal mart. I think they were out of the store brand and mobil 1 was on sale in five quart containers

just remember to get enough. you need 7 quarts.

I had been running Royal Purple since I bought the truck @ 41k miles, switched to Mobil 1 at 131k and will be going back to Royal Purple next oil change. Engine ran quiet, smooth and never consumed any oil with the RP. With the Mobil 1 its been noisy, idles rough and I have had to add 1.5 quarts in the last 5k miles. I also go about 12-15k miles between changes. As for high mileage I changed over to synthetic on my 89 blazer at 110k miles and it ran to 196k miles before we sold it.

It has been similar in the Jetta but my options have been limited, since we have to comply with their 505.01 oil spec for warranty purposes. Not many 0w40 manufacturers.

Mine's quiet with the mobil 1, uses maybe 1/2 quart every 10k miles.

Every truck is a little different I guess.

I have used in other vehicles with no issues, not sure what it is or why but with the RP it was a different story. Only reason I knew of a difference in the Jetta was because I found a good deal on some ELF 0w-40 Euro oil and the engine seems much happier with it, however we never had a problem with the engine burning oil with Mobile 1.

Mobil 1 was what I used in the Blazer, and my old S-15 Jimmy. Used dyno oil in my old Corolla.
