Hello and Happy New Year everyone!
I recently installed a BOSS head unit to replace the factory one. Yes, I understand that some of you think that the BOSS products are crappy. However, given my budget, it was the best bang for my buck. I have a quirk with my install though. When I start the SUV with the remote starter the radio unit comes to life as expected. However, as soon as I open the door the unit shuts down and I have to shut the truck down and restart it before the head unit will light up again. I am sure that this likely has something to do with the anti theft system wiring ( maybe?). I used the standard wiring harness offered by Axxess and everything works fine as far as the unit is concerned. Can anyone figure out which wire I need to ground or splice so that the head unit won't shut down on opening the truck door after a remote start?

I would sincerely appreciate any light that could be shed on this problem.

Cheers and Thanks! Mike

Let me start by saying I know nothing about aftermarket radios and the like or remote start systems. But I do know about factory radios and such. In a factory setup the radio is powered ALL THE TIME. They are not switched on and off by some switch somewhere. The radios turn on because of a message on the vehicle network sent by the BCM. The BCM sends this message when the key is turned on because the BCM monitors the key position. Likewise the BCM knows when the key is turned off and all the doors are still closed and so on. In these conditions the BCM leaves things like the radio active for ten minutes or so and then the BCM sends a message to the radio and anything else that is still on telling these things to go to an inactive state (turn off). If a door opens that ten minute timer is stopped and the BCM tells stuff to turn off.

It sounds to me like this is what is happening when you open the door. The BCM sees the door opening and instructs stuff to turn off.

Someone else here might know more about these remote start systems and the quirks that go with them.

Which wiring harness specifically did you use? (Part Number)... If you didn't use an active harness (one with a data module) you won't have the proper connections for power/turn on.

My mistake. I ended up using a scosche LPGM25. I initially started with the Access harness and realized that I had purchased the wrong one. I found the Scosche unit, complete, via Walmart online. Not the best quality of course. It did come with the module for the chimes and the permanent +12V connectivity to the radio. My Voy is as basic as they come. No BOSE system, no steering wheel controls, probably didn't even come with floor mats.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I appreciate your help.

Cheers! Mike

Hmm... to me sounds like your RAP is shutting off when the door is opened. Quick test would be to start vehicle with remote start then open door and try to raise/lower window... if the window doesn't raise/lower then RAP is shutting off when door is open, could have something to do with the way the remote start was installed/wired and or the interface module the remote start is using. If the window works as normal, could be the stereo interface module that you have is configured incorrectly and or faulty.

I tried to look up the interface module you installed, but the manufacturer link to the manual on their website is not working.

not sure I understand what this means.... your problem is now fixed or that you are currently using the scosche one and the system does not work correctly. One check.... meter the 12v to see what is going on when the door is closed.

Thank you all for your replies and I apologize for any confusion. I had originally purchased an AXXESS harness and it was the wrong one. I then found the Scosche harness which was a complete package and met my needs for this simple GMC install.

COOLASICE - I tried your suggestion and after remote starting and upon hearing the head unit working I opened the door and it immediately killed the radio. The drivers window was fully operational, up down and in between. Although the harness I used promised to maintain all of the RAP components perhaps the promise wasn't quite accurate. When I am in the Voy and shut the key off the radio continues to play normally and shuts down when I open the door with the key removed.

I didn't have this problem with the OEM head unit and the remote start system. This situation with the new head unit seems to be related to the head unit and not the remote start wiring or programming. I am going to shoot an email to the Tech Support line at BOSS and see if they have any suggestions.

Cheers and Thanks!

I would also contact scosche to see if they have a suggestion... possibly something wrong with their interface unit.
