So got a 2006 2wd Trailblazer that has the 4.2 i6, once again doing a v8 swap. What I am questioning now is the ECM. According to the gm part numbers the ECM's are the same. Ok no big deal right, NO. So I have build a gen iv 5.3 58 tooth reluctor wheel. So the 06 TB's 5.3 are a 24 tooth. So the question is when rewriting the software to the ECM with a tech 2, can I use the software from say a 06 truck that used a 58 tooth reluctor on that 24 tooth ECM but with 58 tooth software. No I'm not gonna change the reluctor wheel or the cam gear. Too much $$$ in the build to be swapping that stuff out.

Hope this makes since.

Yup, understand clearly. All I can say is you can try. Worst that can happen is the Tech 2 will tell ya to go pound sand because it's the wrong PCM. I took an 05 5.3 PCM and loaded it with the program for an 06. Not a big deal but all the exchange manuals said they weren't the same. Same for the TCM. If the truck you're trying to load the software into your PCM doesn't use the same PCM, it will probably fail to load.

If that works, you'll probably have to rewire for the crank sensor.

BTW, changed your title to better reflect actual subject.
