so ive been searching and I cant find any pics or much info on the booster that is for the rear heat. anyone got it installed and how well did it help? cost to do so? where is it at? can it be done by yourself?
im asking cuz my 03 isn't heating the rear well and id like to boost it up a bit
anyone have it installed and not use it ?? wanna sell it?? lol

I don't have it installed but if the coolant is slow to heat up you might have a stuck open thermostat. Check the radiator coolant temp when the needle on the gauge is about halfway up. It should still be ice cold. If not your engine is trying to heat up both the coolant in the engine and radiator.

I don't have one, but from what i have seen, the rear heater core 'booster' is an aux electric water pump to circulate the coolant to the rear core faster - there is a lot of plumbing to lose heat along the way.
it gets installed by the heater bypass valve, passenger side firewall, and is automatic - it comes on when the valve is opened
gm p/n 89024885

Back on trailvoy, somebody posted that the part number for the V8 version of the aux pump is 89024886.

Still in the $200 range, but also available on Ebay along with the usual discount internet GM parts sources.

It is 10 degrees F today and my rear heat works fine, albeit after the truck is fully warmed up. A boost pump won't help in this situation where the engine isn't fully warmed up.

Being an '03 its also possible that the rear heater core is getting clogged up. That's what happened to mine. I ended up bypassing it.

well I don't want to bypass it as I use my rear heat a lot so ..is the aux pump a diy type install?? is there a diff between the v8 and i6 models? are they the same install and pump?

the p/n's are for retrofit kits that are normally dealer installed, but should still come with instructions
I believe the reason for the different numbers is for engine specific hoses included in the kit - the pump and wiring should be the same
from the diagrams online - it looks like the 2006 LWB's came from the factory with these

There is a tsb on this and I had it covered under warranty. The dealer said it was a pain to install and took a few hours more than the book listed. It does work increasing the temp in the rear heat. I do not turn it on until the vehicle has warmed up due to the increased circulation making the coolant warm up slower (think heat sink)
