Hit the switch today, window went down but going back up made a grinding/crackling noise and then wouldn't close fully. Had to shove it closed manually and on the drive home it slipped down a bit. I'm guessing it's the window regulator.

Seeing as how the dealer will probably charge me an arm and a leg for it, I'm going to attempt to repair it myself. Anyone have any advice/pointers?

I quote myself here from another thread.

I did repair my window mechanism on my rear doors today.

They have been acting up for a long time and stopped working all together a couple of weeks ago.

They both just dropped down when you try to close them and i had to manually pull them up and put something between the glass and the doorpanel to stop them from falling down.

Actually nothing was really broken in there, but the wires had become slightly longer with time and caused the wire housing to jump out of place in the upper seating not being able to lift the glass.

It was quite a easy repair. All i had to do was to wind the wires a extra lap around the winding mechanism in there and trim about 2cm of each wire housing and they are god to go again.

If anyone get into trouble with their rear door windows i know what to do and not to do.
Do not continue to try to push the button if you get in this situation,, you only kink your wires and make it harder to repair!!.
The fact that parts is soon much cheaper in your country my recommendation is to by a new assembly and put it in just as in the video above, it's a very easy job.

Note to self, don't pull the broken regulator out without the new part sitting next to you or the window glass might fall into the door...*facepalm*

No damage luckily.

Ouch, lucky you!.

I was thinking about warning you about that when I saw what he did on the video.
I pulled the window down all the way and let it rest on the bottom of the door.

Yeah, it was kind of a pain to get the glass back where it was supposed to be but I managed.

She's all fixed up now.
