Replacing bricked ECM using Tech 2

I've got a bricked ECM. (My error) Tech 2 is unable to read the vin, calibration etc. Nothing from my current ECM as it is unable to communicate with it. I have a used ECM that obviously is coded to a different vin. My question is, in Tis2000, do I select "reprogram" or replace and reprogram? My thinking is I don't want to choose "replace and reprogram" option because it will try but will be unable to pull any information from the bricked ECM. Is this correct? Just reprogram my new used ECM with my vin number?

You should do "replace and reprogram". This option is designed to bypass the initial communication check with the old ECM, allowing you to manually enter the vehicle's VIN and force the correct software/calibration to be downloaded to the replacement (used) ECM.

Reprogram is for when you are updating an existing working module.

And here is a "Bonus Bible" for your Tech 2 to have as an Alphabetical Reference set of Step By Steps that explain all of the F1 Keypad Button and Selection and Entry Inputs for the extensive procedures available to Tech 2 Owners:
