I see where DonnieD installed a nexus 7 it appeared to quite labor and cost intensive. So I was thinking of installing an I simple USB transit. And then mode the dash to hold a 7" tablet. Anyone thought of this or tried it? Pictures would be great, thanks all!

I have been contemplating this on my Grand am but havent had the time to make the necessary mods to the dash to hold it. I would suggest that you get a second dash to do your work on first that way you dont ruin the dash you currently have.

Same here except I don't want to hack up the dash. I prefer a permanent install though. But the more I think about it , makes me just want to cough up the cAsh and get Pioneer App Radio 3.

I debate that myself, there's that little voice in my head saying. If you're gonna spend your money do get exactly what you want. And challenge yourself. Anyone can install a double din stereo. But how many tb in your area have a tablet stereo? If you do it right you could make it a tool too. All your vehicle specs, part lists, service history etc.

I have to say, I was going to do a Galaxy Tab 3 in the dash. Then I was going to do a Galaxy Tab 3 mounted to the dash, but removable. Honestly though, with the App Radio 3, that gives me all the features I would need in a tablet install and without all the headache of trying to get it done on my own.

I have an old laptop that I have considered mounting in the car, or using mp3car.com methods to install a touch screen in the dash, but the cost of that project surpasses that cost of the App Radio 3...

No matter how I look at it, the cost of the App Radio and the features it allows, makes the tablet install not worth it.

I had thought about the tablet install until I saw these

There are lots of different ones but you have to watch out that it's a newer one with Android 4.0+ and that it's a pure Android as a lot have a hybrid Windows interface to the Android OS.
